Marcie the Marvelous Trees' Autobiography
Everyone knows that Tree Musketeers was the world's first youth environmental organization. It was founded in 1987 when third-graders planted Marcie the Marvelous Tree in El Segundo.
Those founders of Tree Musketeers are all grown up now, and the third generation of youth leaders is sitting in the driver's seat at the nonprofit where kids are boss. And, Marcie the Marvelous Tree continues to inspire children everywhere to plant and care for trees.
In fact, more than a million kids worldwide have planted over a million trees through Tree Musketeers programs in just the past seven years.
Marcie the Marvelous Tree wrote her autobiography years ago. Inquiries with publishers were met with, “There is no market for a book written by a tree!” Since then we have used it for story telling. The story has been well received by audiences of all ages, even though it is meant for young children. Thanks to a Federal NUCFAC grant from the USDA Forest Service that Northrop Grumman, Group 22 and Boeing helped us match, we have been able to self-publish it.
It is a touching yet educational children's book about the power of kids and trees to change the world. In her story, Marcie talks about standing in the nursery fearing that no one would want her, the horrors of being vandalized, and how trees and humans help each other.
We are "test driving" the book with urban forestry organizations nationwide, educators and libraries. Click here to see more.
