Arbor Day is on the Way!

“Other holidays repose upon the past. Arbor Day proposes for the future.” This was a profound statement in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton when he founded Arbor Day as a special time for celebrating and planting trees. Few would disagree that taking action now for the future is even more imperative in the 21st century.

An Arbor Day task force of community leaders including Eric Busch, Bill Fisher, Jim Boulgarides, Lily Craig, Robin Funk, and Mike Rotolo along with City staff and Tree Musketeers youth managers and staff are hosting this huge community event. They call upon all residential and business citizens to get involved when we plant trees in Washington Park. Take this one step toward a greener future in our hometown and for the planet.

“The economy has slowed down, but global warming has not,” remarked Tree Musketeers president Victoria Tam at a recent Youth Management Team meeting. “We can’t let people forget that Earth needs all of our help.” Arbor Day was the topic under discussion, and it was unanimously resolved to create a means for everyone to invest in not only planting new trees, but also caring for those previously planted.
